How to choose a commercial cleaner for your business

By Aura Services · · 5 min read

A good commercial cleaner is one you stop thinking about. The bins are empty, the bathrooms are stocked, and nobody has to chase anything. A bad one costs you time, complaints and sometimes customers. Here’s what to check before you sign.

1. Will they visit the site before quoting?

A quote made over the phone is a guess. A walkthrough lets the cleaner see the floor types, the access, how busy the bathrooms get and what problem areas you have. Quotes based on a walkthrough are more accurate and lead to fewer surprises later.

2. Do you get a written scope?

The scope is the list of what gets cleaned, how and how often. Without one, “clean the office” can mean anything. Ask for it in writing, area by area, before work starts. (We explain what goes into one in What’s in a cleaning scope?)

3. How do they check quality?

Ask who checks the work and how often. Regular supervisor checks against the scope catch small problems before they become big ones.

4. Can they work around your hours?

Most businesses don’t want cleaning during trading hours. Check that the cleaner can do early mornings, evenings, overnight or weekends, whatever suits your site.

5. Who do you call when something’s missed?

Things get missed sometimes. What matters is how fast it gets fixed. You want one clear point of contact who answers and acts.

6. Will it be the same cleaners?

Consistent cleaners learn your site, your alarm, your fussy coffee machine. Ask whether they keep the same people on a site where possible.

7. Can they handle extras?

Carpet cleaning, windows, pressure washing, a broken hinge. It’s easier when your cleaner can sort the extras too, rather than you finding another contractor each time.
